Chicago Bears NFC NORTH CHAMPS!

The Chicago Bears clinched the NFC North Division today against the Minnesota Vikings. Once again, Rex Grossman played worse than a one-armed leper. Fortunately, the Bear's defense is the best in the NFL, and can create countless turnovers. Urlacher is as close as a player can get to being a Defensive god. Now that the pressure is off, the Bears should be able to get the top seed. I say they start Grossman next week and if he fucks up, put Griese in to see what he can do. With this defense special teams, we will be difficult to beat. The key is Grossman and how he can begin to be an effective quarterback. Those interceptions and fumbles have killed us. Let's hope this is the point of turn-around.

GO BEARS!

COngratulations to The Bears and the City of Chicago for winning their division. I do think it is going to take more than the NFL's best defense to go all the way. The Bears must do something soon to identify and resolve the issues with their offense if they want to make it to the Super Bowl.

Lovie Smith insists on staying with Grossman and differentiating between reality and perception. Reality?!? The reality is outside of this city there are teams in Dallas, New Orleans and Seattle in the NFC ALONE that are playing a hell of a lot better than Minnesota. Come January, this team is looking to learn all about reality.
The fact is in the past few weeks I am seeing no improvement. I trust Lovie Smith, I think he's an intelligent coach and has done much for this team since starting a few seasons back, but he is telling me that a quarterback who goes 6 for 19 with 3 picks, amasses a 1.3 rating and was visibly shaken during and after the game is our BEST CHANCE to win this year.
This assessment just leaves me letdown. Rex has shown little to prove he can lead this offense over the elite teams in the NFL, he has shown little to convince one that he can learn from his mistakes, and he certainly has not shown that he won't hold back a team with championship caliber defense and special teams.
In previous weeks I have tried my best to defend Rex but this is just getting out of hand. I won't say he is a bust but he certainly hasn't proven himself in any other way. If Lovie Smith is truely convinced that this is the path, then Chicago fans are stuck with it, along with some significant doubt.
I sincerely hope Smith is addressing these weaknesses. In four weeks the playoffs begin, and the other contenders won't care.

The fact that this issue is so intense, week to week, with a winning team, gives me some serious doubt going into the post-season.

I had to get that out. I sat in a rage for the most part during this game, and I still have this feeling like we lost.
That being said, the defense played great this game. The item with getting to the quarterback in the past few weeks was addressed, Taylor and Fason broke out for some yards but for the most part the shield held. The special teams had a mishap here and there, but Maynard gave some great positioning, Hester is just amazing (don't forget those blockers), these two phases gave us much to be excited about.

The quarterback solution:
Probably one of the funnier comments regarding the controversy in Chicago:

"I'm starting to think the offense shouldn't even take the field at all. Just let the defense score, then walk back out on the field, hand the ball back to the opposing team's quarterback, and say, "...here. Try again."

I just read that there are now several Bears players (uncertain on number, but more than one) who have anonymously asked for Griese to step in for Grossman. That's not good.
