Ken Hawk's Friday Huddle Quick Hits - Playoffs - Divisional Week

  • This day in history, 1977: An 8 year old Ken Hawk participates in show-and-tell in his 3rd grade class: "thiS iss a bOneR. sometiTMes i get these when im watchinG teh tv. i showd my dAd aand he puchED me."
  • "man teahcer is hoT today." BOING!
  • Divisional week. 8 teams. 4 winners. In honor I'm posting pictures of 4 winners below.
  • A quick summary of the games and then we can all get on with our lives and rough up the suspect to these cheerleaders, alright?
  • Things start out Saturday when the Colts head back to Baltimore to meet the AFC North Champion Ravens.
  • It was a fairly impressive outing by the Indianapolis defense last week. The problem was Kansas City's plan to depend on the run. Of course Dungy was going to come with a counter strategy. Trent Green didn't have a prayer against the 2nd best pass defense.
  • But Baltimore isn't Kansas City. The Ravens are a stingier, more balanced attack of a team. Crappy weather predicted. Ken Hawk is taking the birds.
  • I'll take both of those as well, damn.
  • Saturday night its the Philadelphians at New Orleans.
  • The Eagles' run game and defense got the team through a close rivalry game last week with the Giants. Garcia wasn't on fire, but Philly got it done.
  • The first meeting this year went the Saints' way 27-24 and established them as a power in the NFC. This time around, one of two great stories will end in the Crescent City.
  • Possible upset? Last week Garcia's play slipped a bit, perhaps a sign of things to come. Ken likes NO's vast weaponry and playcalling. Saints.
  • On Sunday, its the Seahawks and the mighty Chicago Bears. The speculation falls on Grossman and the Bears' defense.
  • Ken Hawk says the Chicago D shows up and proves a lot of people wrong. This is the team that beat the Giants at their best, shut out the Jets, and forced 5 turnovers on the Pats on a road trip.
  • Point: the playoffs are a different atmosphere. The dominant Bears D will be in full force.
  • I have the Bears in this battle. The Seattle O was mild if not rusty last week. The defense is plagued by injuries. Outmatched on special teams. Something tells me Grossman plays a good game. A Bears defense in full force overpowers the 'Hawks, and the Bears head to the NFC Championship.
  • Finally, the Patriots at the Chargers on Sunday afternoon in what is expected to be a monumental game.
  • I see why the Pats are the trendy upset here. Any time this team ends up in the playoffs, it's trouble. Belichick has a history with rattling young quarterbacks.
  • Nevertheless, Ken Hawk is going with the Chargers. The balance of talent sides with San Diego, this is simply the better team. Despite Philip Rivers' struggles, the offense finds ways to win. The D makes crap crap itself. This is the most complete team I have seen this season.
  • Ken's picks, Divisional Week:
  • Baltimore > Indianapolis
  • New Orleans > Philadelphia
  • Chicago > Seattle
  • San Diego > New England

That is exactly the way I would have picked this week. I think the game of the week is going to be the Pats & the Chargers. The Pats are always dangerous in the post season, but damn that Charger team is tough. I expect that kid from TCU to have another 100+ rushing day.

Something just tells me that Charger team comes out really fired up. I see Belichick looking to challenge Rivers but I think the Patriots are far out-gunned against the San Diego talent. McCardell, Gates, Jackson, Neal, I think there may be too much here on top of having to account bodies to Tomlinson every play. I think this team comes out and puts a big hit on the Pats.

Great picks! I don't know about the Pats. They seem to always find a way to break great teams' hearts. I'll go with the Pats simply because they've been here before, and their coach is a master at containing talent. Either way, it's going to be a heckuva game. Bears will also win...Daaaaaa Bears!

Bears up 7-0 early!!!!

DA BEARS!!!!!

How’s that?

Also, I wanted to briefly touch on yesterday's games. The Colts looked very impressive against a very tough Ravens team, and I am amazed at how well the Saints played against a much improved Eagles team.

I think the Bears will continue to dominate this game, and I expect the afternoon game between the Pats and the Chargers will be very close with external factors benefiting each side. i think the main external factors will be the Chargers youth and exuberance against the Patriots’ experience.

Da Bears.

Enough said. We can elaborate later.

DAAAAAAA Bears! First playoff win since 1995! Defense wasn't all that great. Grossman played very well. Running game was tight...although abandoned after a while, and clutch kicking by Robbie Gould. Next up...Saints!

Grossman might have had more pressure on him today than anyone I've ever known, and he stood his ground and played well. Like this guy or not, you have to respect his resiliency.
Here's tomorrow's headline. The fucking Chargers LOST. This upset wasn't out of reach, and a hand to the Pats, but damn seeing this team fall short is pretty crazy. I originally picked the Colts and the Giants in the last dance, but I was convinced San Diego was the best team out there.

Funny how no matter where you look, it seems like the talk is more focused on the Bears winning, than the Chargers losing. You know what, they fucking won. The team that since week 6 people have dogged, dissected and disrespected, and seem to point out their shortcomings every week despite their finishes, and despite their ability to stay so tremendously confident and unrelentingly upbeat... they won. Alright? Chicago doesn't care that they weren't fucking perfect, or that there were 6,000 empty seats. FUCK. OFF. They won. The man you said would lose it, played solid, and he won it. The question this week, and for several weeks, was what would happen with Grossman once the playoffs started. There's your answer. He won. He didn't get pulled. He worked hard, and he looked fine. So these dickbrain analysts who still have to rag on the Bears in a complete article to the point where they forget to mention Chicago won yesterday, enjoy that OK? Tear on the Bears for the rest of your life. If they lose next week, make sure your Super Bowl recap in three weeks is all about the Bears and how poorly they would have done had they been in there.
