Ken Hawk's Thursday Huddle Quick Hits - Week 12
It's Thanksgiving at the Hawks' and that means a turkey in the microwave and eating out of the neighbor's garbage.- Last week Coach Hawk predicted the Cowboys to have the means to dominate this second half of the season and start with the Colts. Now Dallas is looking hot with the Giants and the Eagles taking losses. So have faith here, sometimes this guy's thought process is on-target. Other times, like handing his beer to the driving instructor and saying "hEy watCh tHiS", he couldn't be more wrong.
- The Colts' offense was faulted in several places last week, with three fumbles and two interceptions, Manning clearly thrown off and his receivers dropping a number of balls.
- This should be a wake up call for the Colts to get back to the basics, simple mistakes were a major factor in their loss on Sunday. How Indianapolis will regain its focus and correct its errors is to be seen, but I expect this team to eventually overwhelm a Philadelphia club missing its primary weapon.
- How about a little love for this Eagles cheerleader? How about a lot? How about I shake the paint off your walls, honey? Whoa. Too much?
- Chicago ends their three game road trip in the northeast in a Sunday afternoon showdown with one of those teams no one wants to play, the New England Patriots.
- On one hand its my Chicago Bears who have rebound from that loss to go 2-0 on the road, with defense and special teams at their top game and the offense playing smart against turning it over. There are doubts to be had with the offense, but the Bears are improving.
- On the other side, New England is a fierce AFC team. Brady is a renowned leader, Belichick is extremely strategic, the numbers do not reflect what they can throw at you. The Pats weakness may be in a beat-up secondary. I'm pulling for my Bears, but I am thinking Belichick will be the top factor in designing schemes to disrupt Grossman's attack. Tough call.
- You know what else is tough? Ken Hawk getting fired this holiday week. I'd say crapping in a trash can marked "waste" is an honest mistake, and actually a step up for Hawk, really.

- On Thursday night Denver battles Kansas City in another heated AFC West match. The first meeting in Week 2 went to Denver with a final 9-6 score in overtime. How about this, in consecutive weeks both played Oakland to a 17-13 score.
- Ken Hawk is going with Kansas City for the win, aside from the home advantage, with two well-matched defenses you have to look at the offense coming to the table. Jake Plummer just won't convince me with his inconsistency. From one game to the next its who will show up today. But at 7-3 would you shake things up? I don't think Shanahan will.
- And thats the new format. I'd love your feedback, too much or too little, I'd rather hear that than nothing at all. But its a step in the right direction. Ken Hawk hasn't been prouder since a deep search into family records revealed his full birthname. Stand tall, Kenneth Fartholomew Hawk.

There's a lot of facts in there, I think there's room to get to the big factor and sum up the game, but this is certainly an improvement over the old format.
I took some time on Atlanta and New Orleans, Pittsburgh and Baltimore, but I'm sticking with that first instinct.
You don't know how bad I've been wanting to take my Bears, but I think a win against an AFC team like the Pats at the end of a three game road trip is a tall order. Don't get me wrong, they can pull off a win here, but I think the odds are well against them.
Good luck today. Never underestimate one of these teams you think you own. I know this from experience, and its one of the best stories I got.

No, I can't.
But Dallas is really playing at the top of its game. Things are looking good for this squad in the weeks ahead. Everyone has been all about the Bears, but the Cowboys are making a statement in the NFC. They really do look poised o make a run.
Great picks. However, I'll take Da Bears over the Pats. It's true, Bellichick is a strategic monster, but the Bear's special teams coordinator, Dave Toub, is also noteworthy. I think the question is: Will the Pats be able to take on the Bear's defense? I'm not sure they will. We'll see!
The Cowboys are looking really good. I think we should book a date between them and the Bears for the NFC championship. That will be a phenomenal matchup.

haha Ill see what I can do. I'm all about our Bears, and if they upset the Pats hey I'd be down one pick but it would make my week. Like I said, this was tough, I spent alot of time with this pick, but my first instinct goes with the team that has proven itself time and time again over the past several years. But I've been wrong before.
I finished off my Madden 07 season this weekend, and how about this for coincedence. AFC championship game, Colts and Chargers. NFC Championship game, Cowboys and Bears. Pretty eerie considering how these teams look right now.
BTW, saw Fear Factory, Decapitated, Suffocation and Hypocrisy last night at the Metro in Chicago. First time I've been in a pit in a loooong time, and man that kicked ass.
Ken Hawk, you were right! Fucking Grossman couldn't do shit today. The defense was good. The Pats played like shit. We should've won this game. But Grossman had to fuck things up with his awful passing. Griese should have played the second half. The Bears dropped the ball. At least they earned a winning record off this road trip, but my concerns are still fully there. Can the Bears beat a formidable AFC team? The NFC is conquerable by the Bears so long as they don't make the mistakes they made today, but the AFC is a totally different ballgame.
Hey man. By all means, the Bears could have, and SHOULD have, taken this game. We had the opportunities, and we missed them, plain and simple. I can't take anything away from the Pats, I think both teams put up what would be a tremendous defensive battle, but at times in this game Chicago was locked in for a score and gave it away.
The worst part is not that we lost this game, but that we could have won this game and didn't. The run game was going with Jones AND Benson, watching these two in tandem along with McKie gives a lot of hope to the future of the team.
But we can't get past the obvious, you can't put all your chips on Grossman. I haven't seen enough for me to call him a bust, but this is a contending-caliber team with an ineffecient offense.
Its a disappointment because the other facets of the game played so well, but at 9-2 we are still in good shape. This was a close loss to a GOOD AFC team, if anything, it showed that we can contend with these clubs, regardless if we didn't end up with the W, our offense made strides. I trust Smith, we'll see where he goes from here.
How about that upset in Nashville? I picked the Titans to pull one on the Giants but never expected the game to turn out the way it did, this has got to be devastating.
